201t don't believe the negative hype!!

Think the don't like change bit isn't really an excuse. Something had to change as the 200 had problems and with the carb being a big one, it needed to be done.

I've had my 201T since the arbshow last summer and I have no complaints. I think some people just don't like the idea of changing the 200T. No complaints when the 020t replaced the 020AV...what a beast that was!

The whole running in thing... What is the dealers recommendations?

 

I had friends when I was younger who were into and raced crossers. The opinion then on running them in was to ride it like you stole it!

 

How would they be different from any 2 stroke saw?

Times change, it used to be that you run them ragged at first to wear in cylinder after it was cross hatched. But saws that small don't have cylinder liners they have a straight barrel this needs to be run in gently at first before being ragged. Plus how long did the bikes last and were they run at full pelt for an almost 8 hour day?

With crossers you would change the rings and/or piston fairly often some every 4 hours of running to keep them tip top, so no time to run them in gently.Plus I think bikes have a far better cooling system than a chainsaw.

 

Well that was 20 years ago so things might have changed since then!

Running in.. Dont force it, and dont labour it either. Just the same as always, if you want sensible life from your kit.

 

A lot of users who grumble about reliabity of any kit are simply not good operators, with no empathy for machines.

I have been using a 201t all day today on some 60ft ish ash dismantles.

Pro's - Great anti vibe, fuel seemed to last a while, quieter, quick pickup to full revs so good for small branches.

Con's - Bogs down on limbs 8"+.

A few tweaks with the carb screws might remedy the latter...

 

Overall i see it as slightly better than the 200t and i'm sure over time they will improve the torque/power issues.

Spike, I've had mine about the same time and I've just sent it back! Pains me cause I do like it but it just died. Don't know if it's the HT lead or the coil but I do know it's a good job it's on a lanyard or it would have hit the floor when I threw it up s tree!

Cheers for the info. As for your last comment, I don't believe anyone actually runs a saw full tit for that long. You would have to be cutting for double that time I reckon.

 

FTR, I have ran in the last 3 of my saws by letting them idle on a couple of tanks of fuel.
