To be fair Steve, that was the only benefit I could see, but at say a 12' log a tiny movement in the saw could be several inches at the cut...

Had a lazer guide on a mitre saw I had, damn thing moved and my cuts were off, don't like it, it's a gimmick to get you to by a saw.

When the battery go's dead or becomes weak what do you do?

The more dependent people become on electronic tech. The weaker they become, continuing with the basics is the best course of action, IMO.

The log measuring aspect of it I actually quite like

 

I agree there, it's definitely going to be a whole lot more convenient than a loggers tape, I find them a pain in the ....
