as far as im aware a pollard is a tree reduced to its main unions ,nothing intended mate

Just for the record I would like to add I don't intend any offence either !! Some times I recon topping then crown recon

Structuring with regrowth is a very valid form of tree management , or keeping on a cycle , not every ones cup of tea and one I very rarely recommend but it's viable I felling is not an option , let's please make this not another topping debate !! :thumbup1:

No debate to be had.

for one thing if it is desired these trees reform a canopy for a re structure thn the ivy would need to be removed to expose the cambium to light and as a minimum ten feet down from the crown as getting the light the ivy will now race and swamp these ash, which do need a bit of light.

so topping pollarding or reduction, they wont fair well.

yup topping is about right, client wont be told any different he done a ash him self in the front and wanted these done exactly the same. i went to quote he had drawn a diagram of the trees and a dotted line where he wanted them cut. who am i to argue. these ash are not great by any means nor will they be if they shoot again, but they wouldnt wipe out there bungalow if 1 of them failed again :001_smile:
