Has anyone been involved in a woodpecker ring? My Mum showed me you can use a stone in each hand to tap a tree and imitate them, when there's several around pecking in sequence to establish territory. She also did similar with owls hooting but I've never managed that.

 The picture of Breezy was next to one of the bird pics so I threw it in. I figured there would be a pet thread somewhere. 

 

My Dad was a very avid outdoors man. He could wet the area between his thumb and forefinger and make the squealing  noise of a baby rabbit, it would call in fox and hawks. He could make make the noises of several baby birds, and get the parents to dive bomb us. But, I have never heard of the woodpecker ring. Although, it makes sense, they are very territorial.

 

I was about to wander off on my Dads family, how he was raised, instead I'm going back to the welcome forum and I'll add it there. Including one of my ancestors that sat in the British House of commons between 1727 and 1741.

I like woodpeckers . One of my favorites is the Himalayan Heart Spotted woodpecker .  Obviously not here in England . 😁

I did catch a Weasel once, it was actually a Mink, and the thought of pissing in it's ear never crossed my mind, but it was awake, and mad.

Pretty sure I saw a Hen Harrier the other day . Not seen one here down south for maybe 20 years .  They are usually much further north but I used to see them on occasion .  Think they are becoming very rare . Shame .

One's been seen round here (just north of Lewes) a couple of times recently but not by me!  I've only seen one - last year in the Flow Country,a bit up the road from Sussex 😊

See them here on an almost daily basis stubby, a pair just about flew over the bonnet of the truck the other week. Normally either the male or female on their own.

@Stubby  You're a man with your ear to the ground:  I've heard 27th hand (it was on FB apparently!) that a pair of white-tailed eagles were seen here recently, presumably on a day trip from the IoW.  Have you had any sightings?  You're much closer...

No I havn't but I qwill ask my friend Kiren . He is Indian but birds are his life .
