Thinking about this topic on and off all day, I don't believe it's possible that they do pay out anywhere near £26k to anyone, anywhere in this country. It's just not realistic, but the government has once again caught our imagination hook line and sinker. Clever political spin, put the focus on a common enemy that can't put up a fight, I'm surprised they didn't accuse the benefits recipients of having WMDs, except that would be too tall a story. No, IMO this is political spin generated to take our eyes away from something else, the economics down turn and look who they can blame, not themselves, not Labour, not Europe, but the people. It's all ou r fault, and we fell for it. Nice one.

Well put Andy and damn right!

Well said Andy.

Surely none of us are truly so ignorant to believe that if all benefits were stopped today that we would have a better standard of living or less tax to pay?????? Get real lads, they would p1ss it away on something like bank bail outs, or phoney warmongering. I say let the benefits system stand- none of us would see any difference if it was taken away except for even more crime and drug abuse.

thats probably not a million miles away from the truth

I can just imagine Cameron et al rubbing their grubby little hands together listening to all the disgruntled people ringing into all the radio talk shows slagging off single parents, illegitimate kids, absent fathers, benefits and everything else, laughing at the success they've had in turning this around. The simple fact is that this is SOCIETY'S FAULT, and the governments through time that could have easily prevented it from ever happening. But no, they (collectively) have swindled, lied, dodged and fiddled their way to the top, with no real concern for those who put them there.

So spare a thought before leaping on the latest fashionable bandwagon, read between the lines and see whats really happening to this Septic Isle.

I think 26k is double unless you live in London with stupid rents looking at it more like 12k,the Benefits system is there to help people who need it and we need it to stay to help those who truly need help, but for those who can work but cant be bothered i would make them do at least 20 hours community service to earn there benefit and make them get out of bed and clean up the areas where they live

And what happens if they refuse to do this, they end up loosing benefits? Then it's back to the crime talk! Can't put them in prison they would only get community service anyway.....

Listen, I dont care what anyone says, there are literalry thousands hundreds of thousands of dole fiddlers and lazy bumbs who will work the system 24-7 as a fulltime job.

Ive had enough of them!

my sister lives with one, my street has at least three families that have no intention of ever doing a days work.

and then there is NHS tourism, the gravy train called the united kingdom

Why put anyone in prison? If they are fit for work, and they don't, they don't eat, simples. Putting them in prison would train them better in criminal ways, and cost us even more than giving them benefits. I believe all should work for their food, their home, their family, and the benefits should be their to help when things go wrong, redundancy, ill health etc. But benefits should never be there as a sole means of income if you can't be bothered to help yourself.

I have struggled to bring up a family on at times very poor wages, and it's only recently that the benefits have supported low income families properly, these are the ones that deserve help, those who work. Even this is unnecessary, if a proper wage is paid to all, there would be no need for top up benefits to make it affordable to live, the additional revenue raised off a higher income would mean there is more money in the governments coffers, each person could afford to have private health insurance, instead of having to turn to the State in times of hardship. Make each person responsible for themselves, this rot has to stop.
