The american system is for short term? I think it works so long on benefits then it stops if you haven't found a job then tough? Think that's how it's done?

No wonder gun crime is rife, and they imprison more people per capita than any other country in the world..............

personally, I don't see why the government should pay out child benefit at all. It's a couple's decision (usually) and nothing to do with the government. Too many people see having children as a way to get easy £££££.

You might have something there, can we include making anyone who smokes and gets ill pays for medical treatment or leave them die, same for all silly sports injury's, Saturday night drunks and fatty's with diet related illnesses etc etc etc there's tons of stuff out there we could stop paying for to make the world a fairer playing field..........:thumbup1:

we smokers subsidise the NHS by billions, cut the fag tax and I will be happy to oblige in taking my NHS contributions plus my cheaper fags and off to bupa!

I would be 100 pouns a week better off!

Can anyone tell me where I can go to get a 26k hand out??

That's more than I earn in a year anyway! And I work my ass off and pay tax!

It's about time the people of this country grew some balls and told the government that enough is enough - you can't free-ride in a society that is in a recession.

There isn't enough spare money to support all these people, and so they should be forced to get of their lazy fat arses and get a job like the rest of us.

Those that are ill, incapacitated, disabled or retired can be looked after by the system, but what about all those that are not? I imagine it is a staggering ammount.

Don't fancy paying your BUPA premium though. Smoker and tree surgeon, they'd would rub their hands

And you think £100 tax a week ill keep you in comfort during old age and or illness, care homes currently cost £600 a week minimum, let alone state pension, prescriptions, cold weather payments, etc etc I hope you've made plenty of provision just in case, you wouldn't want to be a burden on our kids now would you..........:001_tt2:

Thinking about this topic on and off all day, I don't believe it's possible that they do pay out anywhere near £26k to anyone, anywhere in this country. It's just not realistic, but the government has once again caught our imagination hook line and sinker. Clever political spin, put the focus on a common enemy that can't put up a fight, I'm surprised they didn't accuse the benefits recipients of having WMDs, except that would be too tall a story. No, IMO this is political spin generated to take our eyes away from something else, the economics down turn and look who they can blame, not themselves, not Labour, not Europe, but the people. It's all ou r fault, and we fell for it. Nice one.
