Hardwood cord is £52 tonne delivered in + vat here,(this year and last), processor friendly stuff mainly, mixed load eg: Ash,Sycamore ~Beech etc, paid less for Silver Birch the year before and it was cracking stuff, would like some more, seasoned fast and sold well.

Dont think it's any cheaper when we fell our own once you have costed out the time and fuel etc used.

Its got to be cheaper, why pay someone else when you can do it, that is if you have the trees to fell.

Not if the timber is in a wood that has poor access and you have no harvest . I would rather earn more money doing tree work or forestry maintenance and pay someone to fell with a harvester etc. We do enjoy felling ourselves, but find we dont have time.

HI steve mate you could be right if theres lots of cord about the price may come down but then i can not see it as they like euro forest upm will leave it standing in the woods :lol:all the best jon

Yes and the other thing that keeps it high is the power stations have a 50% grant so if we can afford £40 they can go to £80. But in this economy who knows what will happen.

This year is very strange. Firewood sales this year seems to be on price which really hasn't been an issue before. I can only see the money worries getting worse for the public and volume log production will be too pricey for many. It seems by the threads on here location and weather is key to how busy you are?

As stated before my prices are middle of the road, its hit and miss whether i get the confirmed order. Still plenty of green hilux loads flying about but i struggle to see where it is all coming from?

It will be interesting to see what the recent gales will do to the price of cordwood up here. The neighbouring estate had Smiths Gore tot up what they reckoned they had in blown timber and they very conservatively estimated 1700 tonnes. More likely to be close to 3000 - for instance there is a hectare of completely blown spruce with average 18inch DBH/80-90ft tall.
