did you find the croft oak? and the field of ancient oak pollards?

went there twice in october, will be going back to get some data, that place is important for my dissertation.

love those old sweet chestnuts!

-not sure about the croft oak, but did see the old oak pollards. The Sweet Chestnus are amazing.

Those pics are the view i have out of the bedroom window there are some great trees in chestnut grove. When i have time i will go round and take some pics there are a lot of weird and wonderful trees that are not listed.

Did you get to fish pool valley where the mill and the witches cave are?

-no didn't see the fish pool valley, wasn't there long enough, next time.

You'd walked right past it too. Where the chestnut is with the right angled branch, if you have that to your back and look down into the little valley, it's hiding in there. And at 4.13m diameter, it's not really hidden :)

Some of the nicest trees at croft are on the top of the hill around croft ambrey hill fort. There's a hornbeam that's jumped a fence!! it fell over rolled 20+ meters down the hill re-rooted and carried on growing. If you walk up through the fishpool valley and carry on up to the top of the hill then bare to the left the hill fort starts there where the croft estate borders gatley park. i live on the gatley side and its only a 5min walk from home. lovely place
