Good splitting axe

I found the Stihl cleaving axe to be brilliant, its the biggest one they do, cant find a new handle for it tho!

i love my gransfors bruks scandi forest axe for small stuff at home, they do a large splitting axe which looks lovely

 

 

 

Yup, Large splitting axe (not the maul) is perfect. Goes through most things with not much effort. I allways try to split wood green though, saves alot of effort over splitting seasoned stuff.

I've still got my old Fibreglass Silverline one from yonks ago and it does most stuff perfectly well. Must invest in something a little higher end I think.

Gransfors splitting maul. Splits pretty much anything in front of it - if I can't get something to break in three wallops of that, it gets passed to the 460.

 

Heikki Vipurkirves for straight grained rounds. It won't touch anything knotty, but it is the mutts nuts for the right wood.

yep granfors,,,its not big but does nt need to be, out splits any axe i ve had! had mine 7 years at least, all others lasted mins.....

I use a Supatool axe from the local DIY shop, it's split a ridiculous amount of wood over its lifetime and for the price of £15 I can't really fault it! Should really invest in a "proper" axe at some point...

Don't see what the fuss is really about these top end axes-I've used a Gransfors but

got my fibreglass shaft one from local builders yard for £26 and it's stil razor sharp after splitting loads of timber?!
