I do quick 'tea break services' in the field every few tank fulls, then after a big session could be one or two days I clean/flip bar, sharpen + filters etc. I try to sharpen up all my chains, so if one goes blunt in the field I can change over quickly.

I hate having to stop to sharpen or work on a saw - really feels like a waste of time, so the old army expression goes for me; Poor preparation = p*$$ poor performance.

Also being an engineer I like to feel both saws and motor are working at there best.

I used to be like you but I am 58 years old now ! What about giving your boots a good old winding in of some leather food before the weather forecast on the telly ? - you know it makes sense after all they ate on your feet when you get in - - - surely ?

I agree would rather bring 4 blunt chains home with finished job and sharpen in lit heated workshop rather than travel to site twice.

But if you sharpened on site enough times, you will get so fast that its actually quicker than changing the chain :thumbup1:

Since we use pro saws I am under the presumption that they dont need messing about with every five minutes. I hardly ever turn or dress the bar although I should give the air filter a more of a clean than I do. Plus I never bother warming the saws up and they last way long enough to get great value for money out of them.

If people can be bothered and enjoy spending an hour or so every week cleaning their saws then fair enough:thumbup1:, I just dont think they need it though.

I do carry spare chains though as hitting some stone or soil with a big saw isnt fun and Im not as quick at sharpening as Mr Skyhuck.

Although I mainly run Stihls which we all know are more reliable than Huskys.:001_tongue:
