A machine like that which has a crane on and a hydraulically operated chip box lid so that you could drop lumps of timber straight in would pay for itself in saved time and efficiency.

Big kit gets it done!

That's great, but only if you can get near the tree.

Most of my work the access is awful and the timber says on site. If you have loads of work to go at a mog might be great but how many arb companies are run off there feet doing big trees eery day?

we only have one chipper... and thats on front of mog.... ok if we have a small local job with not much brush we'll take 1 or 2 transits and buzz it up in back.... but 90% of time the mog goes out to the smallest of jobs... it'll fit through any gate way the transit will and i still believe over period yrs the mog and chipper are cheaper to run than a transit and road tow chipper.. once you have a mog/chipper set up theres no reason that shouldnt last for min 20 yrs... how many transits would you get through in that time....

Surely you need to take into account the huge running costs a mog has. Plus didnt you say in your previous post that yours is getting tired after 7-8 years?

A vey nice nice truck indeed :thumbup1:,but not the ultimate arbtruck for me.

You need a nice big timber grab and trailer plus a nice big yard to go with it. The truck is only half the setup from what I can see.

I remember a mog owner saying that it costs around 10K a year in maintenance/running costs and others saying more or less the same which sounds like a lot to me!

I would hope that a new mog would easily last 20+ years,:001_huh:

I thought you were talking about buying a decent used mog that should last 20 years etc. You could buy a new transit/landrover and tow behind chipper that will last 20 years.

So youve lost me.:laugh1:

trust me a 6 inch road tow chipper would be in our scrap bin after 2 yrs working with us.... and it'd take 40 yrs to do the work we'd do in 20 with a mog and chipper... as for the 10 grand a yr to run one..that is complete bollocks.... in the last 12 months i can honestly say other than set front brake pads thats all i've spent on it.. other than the service.... and the 3 yr old schliesing chipper has just had £600 spent on it as buttons, stress control, computer wasnt workin properly.. thats the only money i've spent on chipper since new other than blades...
