Picture this. 50ft sycamore on the side of a river bank. It's behind a row of shops in what's ment to be a back garden but resembles something out of the Congo. The branches are touching the building on one side(this is a three story building) and overhang the gardens to either side. The rear overhangs a public foot path and beyond that is a railing which drops some 20ft into the river. The only means of access for chipper is some quarter of a mile down the foot path and all arb waste will have to go out the same way. Sooo I'm thinking that ill have to borrow the parents kawaski mule to sort the humping out. Notify council as the footpath will need closing as the chipper will stand on footpath blowing chip back onto the banking etc etc. I'm think three man crew + chipper and mule 1day dismantle 1 day clear up and move all waste off site. £850 all in. Working off the lack daylight hrs in the day. What you think?? Too cheap??

Work yer costs out and add some profit, there you go. Also who's banking are you planning on blowing the chip onto? Unless its the person you are working for or you have obtained permission from the banking owner it could be seen as fly tipping. £ I would be after between £1100 and £1500.

Banking is the so called garden the tree is in. I wouldn't turn upto a normal domestic job and chip someone conifer into nextdoors garden lol same sort of thing.:001_smile:

id say that sounded a bit cheap to me! so you have 2 days with 3 guys so thats 6 man days there already. don't know what rates your paying but if it were similar to what our guys are getting you wouldn't have much change out of £800

your going to have to liaise with the council and by the sounds of it there is going to be some rigging involved. the walk out with the waste sounds epic even with a little mule in there. think of the clear up after.. it'll be a quarter of a mile of raking and blowing! there will be stuff falling in to the water etc etc. obviously it is impossible to price something without seeing it but id go with a ball park of £1400 and upwards, i think even at that you'll be wondering why you didnt just push the price up a little more. if all goes well give your blokes a tip! :)

Well my overheads are low as I work full time and do the treework and firewood when ever I get a spare min. I want to go fully self employed next year and definitely will as I'm doing great I just havnt got enough hrs in the day at the moment. I've built up my kit and equipment over the last 3-4 yrs and although it might not be shiny or say the right name on it, its safe and serviceable. I would quite happily work for another arb company but there are no jobs around here and the guys who have jobs say the money is diabolical. This is why I choose to slowly ease myself into starting out alone instead of just jumping in. Plus I have mouths to feed and can't afford to go through dry spells without a contingency.
