Hello,

Who here uses a shredder instead of a chipper?

Here in Le Belle France shredders seem to dominate.

Most of the local councils have them tractor mounted pto driven.

Is there any advantage using one over another?

Regards

Ty

Get two branches of roughly the same size, then get a sharp axe and a sledge hammer.

Using the axe chop one of the branches into small pieces.

Now take the other branch and using the hammer smash it into similar sized piece.

After doing this you will understand why chippers are faster and use much less energy (fuel) than shredders.

Chippers also tend to produce a more desirable mulch.

Chipper or shredder is about material to be processed

If there is a chance the material will be contaminated then the shredder is your weapon of choice, if it’s clean branches the chipper is the right choice.

Ahh... nuts to French grammar:001_tt2:

I learned a new word today from my associate, 'Branleuse' the feminine of 'Branleur'.

Next time I am cut up cycling to work I shall use the feminine as its so much more bitchy:lol:

Our French "wing" think that as the two biggest suppliers in France are predominately shredder builders, that is what everyone thinks that they should have.

You are all correct in that shredders absorb HP for the size of material compared to chippers and they they handle dirty material better than chippers do but are slower processing woody material than chippers. Perhaps they need educating properly.:sneaky2:
