Is there much call for chipper and operator hire?

A little bit, some people just want the chipper with out the operator so that's a no go. Some of them don't want to pay a decent rate. Some of them feed and water you and pay the price you quoted before you leave.

I do a bit for a fencing contractorevery now and again. He passes all the bigger work over but will rip out and stack conifers ready for chipping. Normally only an hour or 2 at the end of a day but it's a bonus. He knows it must be clean, others have stacked all sorts of rubbish up expecting it to be chipped.

Fair enough, I was toying with the idea of buying something like a greenmech so it'll get anywhere and hiring me and it out but if it's not gonna work I'll not bother 

Wouldn't specifically bother if I were you unless you have the machine anyway. Iv hired my tracked timberwolf out with me on a day rate once this year. never again. You'll never work your machine soo hard as they want every minutes worth.

I wouldn't totally rule it out . Not many companies ( two i think ) do it up here. I hire one out now and again and i see the cost is £180 plus delivery and fuel for chipper now , thats without operator. To me there must be a wage in there somewhere for an operator .

I have had idiots wanting a price to basically put their whole dog-**** infested filthy garden through 'your shredder'.

 

Bottles, cans, fence panels, rootballs, rusty swings, pond weed, one-armed Barbies etc.

 

Lovely.
