I got mine off amazon. £20 Inc postage. It seems to be quite accurate. Recently cut and split wood 33,% wood that been done for a while 25%. My arm 32%, the dog 27%, the mrs 1%. All figures.

My new meter. Pleased with it, but can become slightly obsessive.

 

I got one of these jobbies works well. Dont carry it in your pocket or glove box as once it switches on thats it till it eats the expensive 9v battery. Most cheap meters only go to about 45% but over 20% wood is pants for burning. When I first got a moisture meter it was a bit depressing, sorts the men from the boys. Bone dry looking logs 20% on the end cut it in half 35% in the middle.

I bought two moisture meters. A cheap one and an expensive one.

Both gave virtually the same readings as each other when tested on the same pieces of wood. Also the cheaper one seemed of better build quality due to it's rubberised housing.

 

The expensive meter felt and looked a bit budget. Was really disappointed with it. I'd definitely recommend the cheaper one any day.

 

My meter's never worked well, so was checking this thread and followed your links. Mine is one of those cheap ones! It dies every time you stick the pins in a log hard - a dicky contact somewhere. I took it apart to see if I could fix it but it was clearly a really cheap job inside. So sorry, but my recommendation is to avoid!

I've got a Stihl moisture meter.
