My first 3 attempts.

Here's my stuff so I don't get into trouble for lurking.

 

The owl was my first go, I haven't worked out how to do the eyes yet, or how to get hold of an 'eye tool'. I'll get round to the feet later ..

 

Then I did the books as there were no eyes or feet to do.

 

I'm now working on the beer can. It's a rotting bit of horse chestnut which will be dumped in a butterfly garden to rot down for the bugs. I'm doing a crosscutting & maintenance course in Jan then I hope to do a couple of days with a proper grown-up carver.
