Me and the Mrs often have a play in the mud with our old one, we do a few winch competitions. You will note I do the technical stuff and she has all fun of running about in the mud getting cold and wet

I could never understand how the 90's can tow 3.500KG and all different makes of 4x4 some which weighed more could not legally.

Should have made them with axle locks.

Agree about the axle lockers - would have been a good move.

Crazy isn't it with the 90's - I've towed near 3500kg with mine a few times but it certainly doesn't handle it like a 110 or 130 does, however you load the trailer.

Stopping making them soon and new version will no longer have a removable chassis. Worth considering the Santana Iveco version with a nice reliable diesel engine and bodywork fixed to the chassis like the Mercedes GD.

Most reliable LR was the Series 2A. When LR produced the Series 3 the Australians moved to the Land Cruisers and never looked back.

Not the aus military who still use landrover, as toyota dont stand up to the abuse.

The reason toyota are so successful is the trade arrangemebnts they have in the southern hemisphere.

Reference to title, if you want a vechicle thats comfy and can go offroad every now and again, go jap, however if you'd prefer a rugged machine that might be a bit rough round the edges but is fit for purpose and won't let you down provided its looked after get a landy. it also makes the ladies go weak at the knees:thumbup1:

I have 300 tdi hicap, wouldn't swap it for a thousand jap trucks!

Unless you really need one I would get something else. They have they're positives, and there is not much to compare but they are agricultural.

For £4000 you could buy a 1995 LR 90 with 150,000 miles

for the same money you could get a 1999 disco with 100,000 miles

or even a range rover.

never in a million years would i buy a landrover to me there the most over rated 4x4 and not worth the extra cash, there are plenty of other 4x4 on the market that cost far less but will go everywhere a land rover will and last the same amount of time.

Name it then..!

a vehicle which will tow 3.5 ton legally, comes in all different shapes and sizes depending on your use for it, easy to take to bits replace parts and work on, cheap parts, easily modified, and one that actually has a proper chassis,

and i don't beleive any vehicle with leaf sprung rears would be as good of road as a defender.

jap vehicle bend too easily.
