Actually looks like it will make silly money, didnt think there would be much interest in it.

I did look into making one last year but the bits were silly money i thought, well over £200 just for the cone, then time and steel, almost worked out cheaper to buy a brand new one.

Know what you mean about well used, but the one i had a few years ago, there was nowt to really go wrong so long as the bearings and pto were kept greased.

Tractor mounted, pto driven, Screw type log splitter, (poss hycrack) | eBay Not that expensive to make and that one looks very well used

Thing to watch for if buying a used one that isn't hycrack, is to be sure you can still get the replacement tips for the cones. I know hycrack still do them but know of at least one major one that ended up scrapped as no one could supply a new tip for it.

That said though, even fairly rough ones seem to be making quite good money on there - probably due to the time of year.

we had one for a few years, it was a "Barkbuster", we had terrible trouble with it bending the shaft the cone is mounted on. dangerous things as well when they grip the log, especially with knotty softwood. spend the same money on a hydraulic splitter.
