If theres a ladder on site, I always use it. Why waste time and energy thrusting up to your anchor-point when you can use it pruning/dismantling?. Also, over the years, I've had to do 2 rescues...both of them from a ladder.

I work with a bloke now and then who's been doing treework for over 40 years, occasionally, when, I get an awkward moment in climbing, the ladder suddenly extends and fills the gap out onto a branch or stem...he reads the situation and helps out where he can, handy!.

So, in my opinion....ladders..get them off the wagon at the start of the job and don't put 'em back on till the climber is all done and on the ground!.

Quite, if it gets you closer to your anchor point/first branch why be a hero?

Many years ago, while working with an oldie, I threw a rope up and starting thrusting, he asked me why I was not using a ladder, I (half) jokingly replied that it keeps my stomach flat, came the reply"does not stop your head from getting any bigger though does it"

got my big 7.5m 3 stage ladders i use them daily, either to gain access to the tree or hedge or going over fences, walls etc etc

cant see why people have the image issues with trucks 'cant have a trainsit because you look like a *****' who cares it does the job, its same with ladders people dont want the image of useing ladders even though they do a good job and i really dont get it why people think like that.

For me ladders make customers think they could maybe do their own trees.

They just makes us look less specialised and skilled, IMO.

not when the ladder only reaches 1/4 of the way up the tree,

also most people would do there own tree work the only thing that stops them not doing it is the fact they cant get rid of the waste,
