Because it works just as well with a hitch or Lj setup. I hear the rope brake gets in the way and you have to remember the SJ doesn't hold well on a single line by itself.

Why doesn't it hold well on single line? It wouldn't be by itself as the RW would be above it.

Its how the attachment works, LJ connects straight to the RW via the top connection the SJ has to sit very close. Apparently it slips down but thats what i've been told by a few who have tried it. But personally the hitch is still keeping me busy with testing all the knots on it to see how each performs and how well they work. top at the moment is a vt 3/3 setup.

Mark, when choging down I revert to a chocked alpine butterfly, this makes for a much safer system.

 

I can't really see the advantage of Drews retrievable system though over a chocked butterfly though?

Will sort one tomorrow but it's quite simple, butterfly with the working end around the stem and through the butterfly, clip in. Move down when you move.

Rupe, yeah, but, yeah, but, you reduce any chance of repetitive wear of rope against rope. I know the risk is low and you could put a crab or crab and pulley but its still simple and works nicely.

 

Yeah, like, huh, like, you wouldn't, like, want that to happen while yer friction hitch is repetitivly wearing up and down the same rope.

 

 

Seriously? The alpine butterfly would be in a different place on the rope for virtually every tree you climbed? Much less repetitive than the friction hitch we are all using everyday?
