hi guys,

have been reading this thread with interest. I bought a RW last week and have had a bit of a play on it. Just wondering peoples prefered tie in methods. do most people tie off at the base of the tree after putting rope up with throw line? I found this felt less solid than choked off at TIP. was thinking of trying choking it to limb at TIP with alpine buterfly and leaving tail to ground for retrieval, anyone do this? also thinking about if you couldnt easily use throwline for access, would you climb tree in ddrt with carabiner on the end of your rope (could leave RW on line right?). can you choke round a branch with a carabiner or is this bad practice?

just trying to get my head round a completely new system to me, never climbed any SRT before, by the way am using HC RW combo.

look forward to hearing your comments.

I base tie where possible using a hub as a lowerable anchor or tie at the top with a blocked cambium saver. I've found the blocked cs really easy to retrieve compared to a tied off alpine butterfly if you've gon through a few crotches. Rather than choking a crab against a branch, just tie a running bowline.

thanks drew,

The blocked cambium saver sounds like a good way to go. was only thinking of choking with carabiner when climbing to reach anchor point for working from to allow quick choice between ddrt or srt. would tie in with blocked cs, bowline or alpine buterfly once reached high TIP.

a quick little vid I shot in my yard to show how fast the switch-over is from ascending to descent/working mode. I never climb DRT anymore, this is just so damn easy! ;)

(ps, figured out how to upload in HD now, just had to change the MOV file to a MP4 file, so watch it in HD!)

Hey Cary,What are you using to edit video's? And how do you change the files so there HD on Youtube?

Thanks

Sometimes i edit the movies in iMovie on my mac, sometimes just on youtube, there is a free dowload called "MPEG streamclip" google it, it will allow you change the format from MOV. to MP4, which youtube recognizes.

That sounds good, I may make a video of me working a tree, 1st with DdRT, then with the Rope Wrench/SRT, same climb, same route, same problems, that would be cool to see from my helmet-cam viewpoint.

but in the meantime, this is a short little vid Kevin made showing the advantages over DRT and regular SRT.
