Have you tried adding an o-ring into the system above the malion? So both ropes pass through it? Seen a picture of it and people are rating it as a tie off but havent yet had a chance to test it for myself.

Why bother? What's the advantage? Installing from the ground could be a problem if you don't fully isolate the limb.

No because the reason for using the Maillon is so that I don't have to pass dozens of metres of rope through.

Oldmill, do you get massive sit back on that hitch? The legs look proper long in the photos

Annoyingly yes but it's an eye2eye so I'm stuck with it but I'll replace it with a cut piece and make my own termination knots. I have it this way as its the piece of cord I bought when I got the RW.

Hello everyone,

I am fairly new here. I have read this whole thread and have learned allot from this thread. I was wondering is there a way to basal tie your climb line and have it tied off to high TIP AND still have the option of being lowered to the ground from ground personnel in case of emergency. I think if not already in use this would be great to have if someone on the ground would accidentally cut your climbing line.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Mark

In theory yes its a good idea, a sort of redundancy to improve safety and emergency contingencies available. Imo, base anchors for anything more than nipping up to get a hanger etc are a pain in the backside. The sag in the system when loading/unloading your weight being only the start of it.

If you're worried about your co workers accidentally cutting your line, maybe you should think about who you work with...
