Most of the ones I have seen are beech. It's more close grained than acers and therefore more hygenic.

I've never seen a Beech one, they were generally scraped clean, I think Sycamore takes being scraped better.

 

I was actually working for a woman who has an antique business yesterday and she asked me to leave her a 4' length of Sycamore for her to get made into BB, because she has to buy the Sycamore she uses in.

think you`ll find there beech,,,,but hey,,we all think were experts,,,,usaully end grain beech,,,:001_huh:

 

I really don't think I'm an expert, I'm only speaking from my own experience (please see my signature)

 

I've seen a lot of BB over the years and every one I have seen has been Sycamore.

 

It could be a regional thing, different county's/areas of Britain may use different timber.
