setting rigging pulleys

when setting rigging pulleys what knot do you prefer and why? when using a split tail/pulley combo i use a timber hitch, mainly because that was what i was originally taught. Why would you choose a cow hitch over a timber hitch? most of the time with lighter rigging i just use a whoopie sling girth hitched.

timber hitch is more likely to come loose through constant shock loading than the cow hitch always tie a not in end of rope on timber hitch to stop it slipping out i have had the timber hitch come undone and the pulley nearly killed me and groundies as it came past my ear i am a big fan of whoopieeeeeeeees and loopieeeees

Timber hitch, girth hitch sling & pulley for small re-directs etc. Used to use topping down strop (until I ran over it :asshole2: ) a lot on small stuff. Does not seem very popular now but I always found them qick and easy in the right situation.

i've done mine like that. Also, similair for Cow with large line on large tree. Feed eye out of bucket and short of target and lay on ground; then feed bight around tree. slip bucket with rest of line thru, then take half hitch around bight. Lastly, tighten up mess by feeding eye (that fell short of target location) thru bight.

Eye should be big enough (Bowline or spice) to keep knot/splice a foot or so behind bight. so only the 2 solid legs of eye take brunt of loading; and the 'joint' takes only buffered loading.
