Just read this whole thread to see what the crack is, for the record and to supplement my meagre efforts, after each set i stood up straight and went back down immediately after, probably 2-3 sec break max. will try it the easy way later, hehe.. ten seconds seems like a good while to be resting to me. hmmmm

That is correct form mate.

I believe Tom Dixon thought is was acceptable to wander round the settee, have a chat with the wife about how tea was progressing and watch a bit of Eastbrooksideemmerdalestreetfarm between sets....

I have heard of a gym-junkie achieving 17.something, but didn't see it.

13.anything is bloody good going (91+ press ups).

I'm having a break at the minute doing weighted dips instead, but might give it a bash tomorrow night.

Rich would you class press ups harder if a wider position was adopted ?

Glad to hear your mending well Mr Collins :001_smile:

The width of the position works different areas of the chest. Personally I nearly always do a close pressup, shoulder width and on my knuckles.

The knuckles thing is force of habit from damaging my wrists a few times Snowboarding and boxing/Muay Thai. It always seems easier on the knuckle. Plus it is hard to do them on your palms in boxing gloves or wraps.

Cheers Rich the reason I ask is that my shoulders click and grind when using a normal width press up . I find a slightly wider stance stops this . Both my shoulders are wrecked anyway lol . Wider stance like you said seems to work the outer chest as would a dbell bench press .

going wider will destroy AC joint over time, stick to a narrower grip and bring elbows in more. Also id consider strengthening your scapula and rotator cuff fella. Anything wide and with flared elbows is a pec tear or shoulder joint issue waiting to happen,i learnt the hard way
