Matt, you can do it yourself its a doddle.:biggrin:

 

To do the engine shaft, take off the centre coupler, slacken the throttle assy and unclamp the tube from the clutch housing. Release the plastic retainer sleeve at the coupling end and pull out the shaft. Push in a new shaft c/w clips and new plastic sleeve (part no 4140 710 3220). slip the tube from the clutch hsg and fit the rubber grip over the shaft. Push it all fully home and refit the coupler. Tighten every thing up.

 

The Hl-KM end is treated similarly, just release the plastic guide sleeve, pull out the shaft and replace it with 4140 710 3225, not forgetting to fit the rubber grip behind the guide (it stops the shaft sliding out)

 

Retail price of parts is around £40 plus vat.

Hi guys, I got my DTI TT20 today and tested out my 020av. Can someone tell me what the settings should be at for standard.

 

Revs out to 9500 and seems to be idling around 300. I've also checked the compression on it and it's at 170, I'd also like to know if this is acceptable.

 

Oh and the chain spinning has now ceased thanks to a new set of clutch springs, thanks for the advice Spud :thumbup1:

The compression at 170psi is very good, the saw should idle at 2,400 rpm and rev out at 12,000rpm so your saw is idling a little high and running very fat at the top end.

 

Glad the clutch springs sorted it, it usually does:thumbup:

Thanks Spud, I shall dial her in over the weekend. Would you happen to know the settings for a Dolmar 133 special, I checked the compression earlier and it was 150. Topping out at 9600, I didn't make note of the idle speed.

 

Got no data on Dolmars - sorry, 9600 sounds megga rich as even old Stihl 009/010 rev out at 10500 and old non reed induction saws at circa 12,500. YOu can do it by ear - a good backup!

 

150psi is good

Bugger, I decided to have a little tinker with the 020 and my new DTi20k... it didn't go very well at all :blushing:

 

It was ticking over a little erratically bouncing about from 2100-2500, I gently played with the L side and a few blips of the throttle saw it steady out a little, but still not smooth around 2400.

 

I then tested it flat out, it was around 9600 and I managed to get it up to 10k, then things went a little wrong. I started having trouble maintaining full throttle and it would slow and die when cutting.

 

Clearly I'm lacking in the dark arts powers today :confused1: But I hope someone will post a dummies guide to setting up. I'm thinking it's not as simple as adjusting the one screw and that one directly affects the other in some way.

 

I've not removed the plug as yet to have a look but I suspect it's oiled up as it did seem to be smoking too much when i gave up and slid it back into the shed :sneaky2:

 

I tried setting things back to factory as it were, 1.5 turns out but I still had trouble starting and maintaining idle. What should the throttle screw setting be set to? It was out about 4 turns, I'm also wondering if there are any air leak issues causing the erratic idle.

 

Any advice folks?

The tuning on these older carbs is a bit fiddly, the L setting depends on what the H setting is and vice versa, your best bet is to set the machine to factory - 1 & 1/4 turns out on both and see what gives, if it is running rich at the top end then adjust this in and see what the effects to the idle are.

 

The saw is a bit fiddly to get right but it is generally a case of going from one adjustment to the other and eventually you will get it right! THe not revving out OK sounds like the H is either too lean or too rich, too rich gives a lot of smoke and faltering top end whilst too lean just makes the top end die. The lack of cutting power can be down to the L screw set too lean - as I say, it comes with experience.

 

Try the factory settinngs and see what gives and tweak from there. The metering arm setting will affect the mixture as well - too high and it will be too rich!
