chainsaw bow saw...... why???

whilst avoiding paperwork this morning i found this on you tube:-

Now can someone please tell me why u'd use one of these? I can't get my head around it at all and i've watched several video's but can't see the point. :confused1:

I should think someone designed it.....because they could.

Actually i reckon its to do with cutting logs on the gound somehow.

That would be a bugger to put a gob in with,looked allright though,quite clever.

They are designed for repetitive bucking. Harder to get pinched/bind up.

see i knew this place would have the answer!!! Can see the logic, guess it's really been superseeded by timber harvesters on machines!

Also you don't have to bend down/stand up so less strain on operator and back.

I remember seeing them in the old Oregon literature of late 70s early 80s. Called pulpwood saws and I think used for cutting pulpwood in the stack.

Looked quite efficient! If you were doing the same with a conventional bar you'd be working right close to the ground.
