Thats not strictly true Dean, every man has an assault rifle in his home they are all in the swiss army as part of their national service and have to periodicaly attend training. I does work pretty well except that occasionaly some one goes nuts, and of course there's nothing quite like a nutter with an M16.

 

Or in the case of the Swiss, a Styer AG, much better rifle than the M16.

Agree...apitude, attitude...and past record...anyone who's convicted of anything from TDA to fraud...burglary or rape should never be allowed to legally own a gun as the "trust" thing aint there, no matter how smart their IQ.

anyone in the uk can easily obtain a shot gun-for a SG licence anyone can say they want to take up clay shooting-the firearms officer just needs a reason not to issue you one-criminal record for armed robbery would be one!

its the ownership of illegal guns is where the problems start . . .

I've met a few Swiss Army blokes and we definately have more nutters in the British Army, so leave the rifles in the Armoury!!.

All Swis nationals have to do military service. once they complete their training and go back to civvy street, but are obliged to retain their Assault rifle and sidearm, uniform and Ammunition. They are also encouraged to keep up their marksmanship skills.

 

It's been said in the past, that one of the reasons Switzerland retained its nuetrality in the face of the Nazi threat was because the Nazi's were'nt so stupid as to invade a mountinous country where every able bodied man (and women) were heaily armed crack shot...

I grew up in Canada where we regularly trip over our guns, such is their profusion. Not many people shoot other people there. Funny that.
