When we do highway work, yes we keep the down. When we're not I always have them up as I like to be able so see the feed-rollers working away..

can you not replace them with clear ones?

No point, they would just get scratched.

On any other chipper I fold them up, on the 1000 I leave them down as anything I push through the flaps disappears without any fuss.

Looking for some advice on whether or not to buy a Vermeer BC1000.

What im really after is some feedback from owner/users of these machines.Do they chip well, do they break down, any common faults?

We intend to put it out mainly doing back garden work, so it must be able to deal with everthing from take downs to hedge clipping jobs.

Honest answers please

Before you buy, check out Woodsman 730B, seen loads of these in the USA and Germany. these chippers have been giving Vermeer a good run for their money. http://www.listonequipment.co.uk

A Terex is the modified and improved Woodsman. Apparently Terex bought Woodsman.

However, because we are in England you're safer buying a brand that has good customer support ie: Bandit if your looking at a bigger chipper.

The one feed roller on the 1000 lets it down. Good machine otherwise. The BC1200 on the other hand has a hydraulic crunch top roller and although a slightly bigger machine as well it's 100 times better. It's my all time favourite chipper
