how big is a cabstar body :confused1:

approx 3m x 1.5m x 0.36m = 1.6m loose filled, which know i've worked it out sounds to cheap, but i'm going over to bulk bags this winter 800 x 800 x 800 which work out at .512 of a cube and they will be £65-£70 each.

Is that all hardwood? do you buy in cordwood?

whatever the answer is to the above questions if i lived closer to you i wouldn't bother buying in and processing i'd just come into your yard load up and deliver and almost double my money.

For fear of starting something here :)

That's £130-£140 a cube, I can't help feeling that a lot of woodburners were fitted purely as a feature and people don't rely on it for a guaranteed heat source, and I can't help feeling that some of you are going to price yourselves out of work at those prices, because while times are hard (and getting harder) they just won't bother lighting them, obviously there are still people who will need logs for essential heat.

Obviuosly I am comparing those prices to around here, but I don't believe we are that far apart in distance.

Scraggs, i am finding that I am picking up a lot of new clients who have just had a stove installed as rightly or wrongly they see them as a cheaper way of heating their home.

I find it cheaper to light my stove than to turn on my oil boiler to run my underfloor heating, but I have made it my business to track down any fallen tree or buy in arb waste from local tree surgeons process it and sell it on.

Joe public is really struggling to find any of the ledgendary 'free' wood, so soon they will either have to not light thier stove or pay the price we charge for Logs.

Can I ask if any of you guys really sit down to do a proper costing?

buy-in price or tons/hectare over capital cost land/management/interest of loan

Transport costs in/time/fuel/depreciation of vehicles

Rental value of storage/work space

Packaging costs/advertising/phones/time

Delivery costs incl deprecations and fuels

Banking costs/bad debts etc

Total time:profit ex vat

..to work out what you really earn per hour?

Very valid post.

Delivery to customer is alone a major cost, especially if you have a dedicated delivery vehicle.

Depreciation, servicing, repair, tyres, testing, tax, insurance all add up, never mind fuel.
