I put a thread on here a couple of weeks ago offering some red oak for firewood from someone selling down in Hertfordshire, but have not had a single response to the thread. Whats wrong with red oak as firewood, I had a small amount (about half a ton) mixed in with my firewood last year and found it burnt really well, is anyone able to tell me what the problem is with red oak as firewood?:confused1::confused1::confused1:

There nothing wrong with Red Oak. The only difference is that it is not as strong as English oak. But as you are burning it that really does not matter. Just put it down to Oak snobbs, and once it is cut and split, no one other than a really sad tree spotter is going to know the difference.

Thanks for that SMG, I understand thats its not too good for anything other than firewood, and thats why it was offered as firewood, but was just very surprised to have no interest in it. Other opinions would still be appreciated.
