Last week I splashed out (ha!) £70 for 2 ex-Austrian army waterproof yet breathable 'Goretex' jackets from the internet. They arrived promptly and looked the business.

Today Stevo and I got absolutely, utterly soaked right through to our knacker-sacks. Yes, it's been wet all day, but I was soaked after the first shower.

Hmm. I was planning to get one of those. Maybe time for a rethink!

I need a waterproof for working in the woods that won't get trashed too easily or is cheap enough not to matter. Any suggestions please?

I purchased one of these. Brand new, in the bag and does what it is meant to. Also has a hood.

Rich Rule went for the British Army desert pattern camo (rainy deserts?:001_tongue:) and his has kept him bone dry. £40 from Ebay.

I've found the Arktis waterproof smock like Toms for £110, and am impressed with the hood you can put over your lid, the ripstop material and the guarantee.

This thread comes up every year. Next year I want to be reading it thinking 'I haven't been wet at work for a year'!

There are some good jackets out there for £130+.

My Northface Goretex is very light and completely waterproof, but wouldn't last a month in this game.

I've heard from a mate in the TA that there's going to be a lot new stuff hitting the army surplus scene since the MOD are changing all their gear into a universal type to save money.

So the MOD are dumping all their gear that works perfectly, to save money. Oh yeah, I love being a high bracket tax payer!:thumbdown:

I've got a slightly irrational aversion to DPM so I'd prefer to get something in plain olive drab.

Where did you you find the Arktis for that price? I don't want to spend more than £100 (preferably much less to be honest) but if it's really good I could probably find the extra tenner!
