Could you not put it to them that they are welcome to their timber and chips back but the bill will only go up as you've already taken into account the value of the timber, however small a value it may be.

surely what youve got in timber will pay the bill,

Haha. I've had that little chestnut a few times.

I just tell them they can keep the wood if they wish or I'll bring it back minus transport cost and they can have a go at selling it for the price of the job

I'm sure you'll get the money. If not, small claims court. They will get a CCJ against their name. Just the mention of this might spur them into paying!

And re: written quote. i don't think you need it in writing. verbal is legally binding still.

Yep, too true, they'll have the money if you threaten legal action.

Years ago a customer was just about to hand me over cheque when he pulled it back and said - "did I know that if he doesn't want to pay for this job he doesn't have" Confused I asked what he meant. He went on to explain that if some customer doesn't want to pay you for a job you'll find it impossible to get the money out of them. And do you know what - after 21 years in business although it doesn't happen very often, those types are out there. Sometimes you have to be creative to recover debts:biggrin:

Joy - yes, this sort of customers makes my blood boil - good luck

Con artists, hate them.

I would rather someone came up to me and stole a saw from under my nose than deal with people like that.:thumbdown:

I hope you get your money and they pay 10 fold, one way or another!

tbh im sorry I went and fetched the guys out the woods on Friday to try and help them out as the limb dropped across the drive trapping the builders vehicles in.

I dont think it helps that certain people in the village cant butt out and there were people who have know idea or knowledge of tree work apparently telling them what it should cost over the weekend.

Im so sorry about this one guys. You think you know people, then they pull tricks like this!

had you noticed the big new clearview stove being fitted?
