Rigging plate use

Recommended Posts

I've always used slings (when appropriate) to rope off branches. My set up is large bowline on the end of the lowering rope and Krabs with slings clipped to the bowline.

My question is this, is a rigging plate purely for attaching multiple Krabs and slings or are there other applications that I'm not seeing?

I've been trawling through the old 'Rigging & Lowering' threads and notice that Rupe uses one all the time.

I'd be very interested in any thoughts or experiences.

Thanks.

You can use them to build a floating anchor in the middle of the tree, speedline rigging plate. Mostly i use mine for balancing stem wood off or using it when dropping multiple branches. It is very quick if you have a few slings and whilst the first few bracnhes are haeding down you can strop up others so its ready to go again. Spider balancing i use the dmm oval hub which i prefer but you can easily achieve this with a petzl paw plate.

I understand that Rupe uses one because he has realised that the more gear you can put into a system the more you are allowed to charge people.

I'm trying to work out how to use 3 or 4 at once.

That would involve buying 3 or 4 in the first place though Bill.

Right then, I'm ordering 6 rigging plates to boost my profit!

Seriously though, this is all good. Not quite sure I understand the floating anchor with this device. Unless you mean using it like that pretty purple DMM thingy. Sorry, can't remember it's name.

Ill stick a picture up next week for you with the paw plate.

What do you use a floating anchor for? when do you use it and how do you go about constructing one?
