I reckon crackopractors and osteos are all quacks, and make things worse in the long run. I have tried both in the past and noticed nothing more than a placebo effect at best. And have been terrified at the thought of what a chiro does long term.

Like others have said, gentle movement until it's right again. I can't recommend doing Pilates enough, when you are a bit better. Also, chat to a physio. Both will give you exercises that strengthen your core, which takes a lot of the pressure off your back. As they say, prevention is better than cure. My back used to go regularly until I did some core work. It hasn't gone in about 4 years now. Swimming and surfing seem to help prevent episodes/spasms etc for me anyway.

Hope you recover quickly. Its the worst feeling not being able to do the things you can normally do with ease.

'bad back' can cover a multitude of injuries/damage. Depends whether it's bone (slipped disk), nerve trapped(sciatica) or muscle spasm. If it's the latter, then usually it's the sacro iliac (sp?) muscle gone into spasm.

If it's that then your lucky as the best relief comes from walking to the pub, resting against the bar & drinking loads of muscle relaxant of your favourite flavour.

Just abit of advice. Someone i used to work with sufferd from alot of back problems and went to the doctor worried about where it was alll going.

Doctor advised that due to the nature of work the arms and legs were very strong and the lower back hadnt strengthed at the same rate and was out of balance. He recommended yoga stretches every morning to strenghen the lower back.

I would get the worrying niggle in my back randomly wen doing heavy work so I gave the stretches ago and have been doing them for the last four years and havent had ( touch wood ) a single minor problem with my back since, and thats climbing, stump grinding, dragging you name it.

Priceless prevents the problem before its a problem.

Takes 2 minutes every morning

If you want details on how to do them pm me and ill explain it to you. But wait till your backs better first :001_smile:

Get yourself to good physio who specialises in backs. i shattered a disc in my lower back in 2000 and after operations, injections acupuncture and loads of stupid advice and exercises i was referred to an excellent physio who told me to stop being lazy and thrashed me in the gym. not had a problem since!!

It seems so far that it's different strokes for different folks. You'll have to find what works for you. Physio never worked for me but the eletro acupuncture did. Oestoepaths don't work for everybody. But, everyone seems in general agreement that whatever you do don't spend too long doing nothing. It does depend on the injury but I was sure the long held belief that lying on your back all day was the answer is now long gone.
