Skyhuck did say 'think', its was a subjective opinion.

The risk does increase when people use trees as shelters during storms.

Does someone sheltering under the canopy of a tree from heavy rain and high winds, accept that its normal behaviour for their to be structural damage to both man-made and natural features during such weather events?

this statement is demeaning and aggressive and not what I'd expect to see from a moderator.

Just because the person has an opinion contrary to you own it does not give you the right to attack him personally.

......and dont even think about deleting this post or I'll be taking this issue to a higher authority.

This I find particularly insulting

I know your really dislike me Tim, but I think this particular attack is very, very low.

Being a moderator on several other sites it's quite interesting to see how often people have difficulty distinguishing between what someone says about a person, and what someone says about what that person writes.

It depends on the posting rules, of course, but to write, " that is a stupid thing to say" is acceptable (though perhaps not very tactful) -- particularly if the person goes on the explain why it's a stupid thing to say. On the other hand it's completely unacceptable to say that a person writing something "is stupid". That's what we call an ad hominem attack, meaning 'an attack on the man' -- rather than what he's written.

In this case skyhuck did not make a personal attack and therefore, IMHO, what he said should be considered acceptable.

Best wishes,

John Russell

I don't see an attack on a person by Skyhuck, just on Skyhuck's integrity as a mod, but this is only my opinion. We're all grown-ups with different opinions on threads that are entitled to be expressed in the forum. If you don't want to be disagreed with, play safe and don't post but you will lose out on the wealth of knowledge and experience present in your fellow Arbtalk participants. :001_smile:
