  1. Would this amount of works not require a felling licence?

How can I quantify experience? A lot could change in 4 years - my low water demand tulip tree could reach 22m. Shouldn't nhbc calculate in expected water uptake based on size/leaf area rather than species?

What height does a tulip tree grow and what water demand does nhbc class it as?

Size of tree must be important too. A 4m oak can not have a higher water demand than a 20m tulip tree can it?

Wouldn't this be a slow way of getting to the inevitable soil condition? Remove over 5 years or remove over 1 day - the soil will re-wet to a post tree condition anyway won't it? Sooner rather that later I would say.
  6. See: Pocket plum / Royal Horticultural Society Looks like plum with a fungal infection.
  7. Could it be a plum with some kind of insect mutated fruits?

  9. Any budding football managers interested in joining a league on Soccer Manger? It’s free to join and we could have an ArbTalk League?

  14. Thought I'd add this in light of the ongoing debate. Only 1 minute 30 seconds from the silver haired rockers. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6_YAtr0x48]Guided By Voices - God Loves Us - YouTube[/ame]
  15. The only time I’ve needed accurate GPS is on large scale local authority safety surveys or utility surveys where topographical plans or detailed OS maps are unconventional and time consuming (both in the field and when importing into a report). Sub 1m or sub 0.5m accuracy is required for these surveys I think. If you’re lucky enough to get these contracts you can work the price of an accurate GPS hardware into the cost – however, when I have done such surveys I’ve always been supplied with both the software and the hardware by the client, as the data produced fits in with the systems they already use. If I could afford an accurate GPS device I would love to buy one but for the majority of my surveys a detailed OS map or topographical plan and a reliable data recording device, such as smartphone or PDA is sufficient. But I don’t think sub 10m GPS you generally get on smartphones is accurate enough for large scale inventory surveys.
  16. I would recommend Tree Roots and Buildings if you don't already own a copy. I think it's a good reference book and one I've always turned to as a guide on tree rooting distances. You can get a copy for around £30. 19. Have a look through the past issues of the ISA Arboriculture & Urban Forestry Journal. All articles over 2 years old are free to view and worth a browse at least. Articles for ISA Arboriculture Journal I've found some of the older articles to be a good introduction to many arb subjects, such as: http://joa.isa-arbor.com/request.asp?JournalID=1&ArticleID=1686&Type=2 http://joa.isa-arbor.com/request.asp?JournalID=1&ArticleID=178&Type=2

  22. Allicin from garlic has been used in studies to treat various plant pathogens, including bacteria and fungi. It may or may not control pathogens in trees, and I think that specific research on whether allicin has any effect against tree diseases in live trees would be required to say for certain. ScienceDirect - Physiological and Molecular Plant Pathology : Broad-spectrum activity of the volatile phytoanticipin allicin in extracts of garlic (Allium sativum L.) against plant pathogenic bacteria, fungi and Oomycetes ScienceDirect - Crop Protection : Antibacterial effect of Allium sativum and Ficus carica extracts on tomato bacterial pathogens SpringerLink - Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, Volume 57, Number 3 SpringerLink - European Journal of Plant Pathology, Volume 121, Number 3 SpringerLink - European Journal of Plant Pathology, Volume 109, Number 3 SpringerLink - European Journal of Plant Pathology, Volume 122, Number 1
