chinese lanterns - nuisance or novelty

Erm:blushing:

I set off a load last year at a party. But I did check with the host and other guests, checked the weather, windage etc and we discussed it through before doing it. They went up and away very gently and we enjoyed the spectacle and the children (and the grown ups) though that it was brilliant.

However, I do take onboard peoples views about the wire being non-biodegradable and if used improperly, they are a fire hazard. Possibly even a danger to aircraft.

A local farmer has a mini festival for the school kids and they provided and set off 60 or 70 last year! You can get ones without wire, that are suppossed to be 100 percent biodegaradable. It did look pretty cool but I have to admit I am unsure about them. There had been rain and the wind was blowing away from the airport..

Hate em. They've torched a few friends barns and a good friends thatched cottage. They also harm farm livestock (wire aspect of it), can set fire to heathland, and the bane of the lives for any farmer when it comes to harvesting the crops as the paper and wood degrades and the wire wraps around the thresher heads.

They are a pain in the arse, new years day i picked 126 of my land .

the ones with no wire are just as bad bamboo breaks up when mowed .

What happens when somebodys race horse dies from eating contaminated hay.
