Had a great day in the woods today, whip was in an exceptional mood and gave me a new species one ive been dying to see for so very long and Im glad it was whippendell that gave me my first find.:001_cool:

First up a mahooosive Inonotus hispidus from the edge of the grove, bit of a climb, same tree I climbed for hispidus last year but a lot higher up this time. I actually took this bracket for lectures at some point in my career, was an essential for the catalouge of fruiting bodies! I hope the size throws a few students off in the future! ha ha

so here is today's finds, files are all named so just scroll over image for description.

So was I

You know that saying about not being able to choose your relatives? Today was a perfect opportunity to apply it :001_rolleyes:. And if I could choose them, I'd have one's that at least called ahead to let you know they were in visitting mode.

We're in and around Herts tomorrow, so if you're very, very lucky I may come and collapse on your doorstep in a knackered heap afterwards :001_tt2:

Tony,

Great shots  . Two remarks : Lycogala terrestre = L. epidendrum and Chlorociboria aeruginascens can also be C. aeruginosa.

Glad you liked the images, I was chuffed to bits with the elf cups, the longipes is going bananas this year in the sycamore section of Whippendell, was all over the place and very healthy big sporocarps:thumbup1: The Hispidus are on two very big ash trees that ive been following for around 3-4 years now, the biggest sporocarp so far was 3ft across! they dont tell you that in the books!

I have to say the Lycogalas where larger rougher than usual, also acompanied by calocera cornea and a diatrype -disciformis probably.

I found a few others on the day, do you have any idea what this one is? I have found it growing on dead well rotted beech wood in Epping and now here on well rotted Oak?

Any kind of well rotted wood will do for this representative of the final phase of wood decay with pink spores turning the gills to greyish pink and the smell of raw potatoes : Pluteus cervinus (= P. atricapillus).
