its been the same every year manic for one week in september then steady till mid December Then cant cope till end of Feb. Difference this year is its been mild so the steaming transit compost for £60 has lasted a bit longer. Most people think winter is October to Feb but some years its January to April. I think alot of people round my way have panicked and dump there logs out there to get some turn over rather than profit. I am always happy for half my stock to sit there till next year but we have sold out for the last 5 years.

Tell me about it, had a guy call tonight "what wood it it?" I say "ash & elm, 2 yrs old very dry, burns a treat!" that a burn cold! WTF! I said "well would you like to come and put your hand near my Rayburn (was reading 550 F at the time) and see how cold you think it is? Mmm he says, "how much then?" £95 a m3 I say, "stuff that I can get it from a bloke £60 a tranny load!" ok bye then! I know the bloke selling £60 a load and he's packing up after Xmas "cos there's no money in this game!?"

Back to the OP not to bad, getting a few loads out a week and the Xmas orders are starting to come in now for Dec.

Bellend must have been duped by the firewood poem! Dry elm is like nuclear!

Elm is seriously underated! Gives stag oak a run for its money any day of the week

We've got a lot of standing dead stuff around me, I will go out of my way to get it too!

I've found that it does'nt matter what you sell, there are some people you just cant please! Its too dry, too wet, not the right type, to big/small, too much (someone sent me away with 1/3 load H/W paid for as it did not fit in his log store) expensive etc. 'Just let it go over your head', I say to myself, then tonight a regular customer that we barrow and stack for complained there was not as much as his last load, it was only when we drove off that I remembered the last load was stacked in 2 rows, this was stacked in 3, so it did'nt come as high up in the log store. I stupidly phoned to explain, why do I think I can keep everyone happy after dealing with log customers for over 20 years and know what to expect!!

Bye the way sales are good!

Cold week forecast for the midlands! Spent the day cutting. Ash is only reading 22% when freshly split! Stuff thats been split a week is down to 18%. Cant believe how quick it dries, burns really nicely. Got 3 bulk bags and 30 nets to deliver this week. Having repeat orders too as people want to stock up ahead of any really cold weather we get! Nice to know im selling a decent product that people like. Hope everyone else is selling ok.

Are you resplitting the week old stuff??

If not the outer edge will have dried a little, but it will still be 22% in the centre.
