There are a lot of stove retailers giving out duff info.

 

I like softwood best for my stove. gives a nice flame and easy to get burning and burns cleaner faster thus keeping the glass cleaner.

Its like the people who somehow think that willow wont burn

I burn a lot of oak but it needs a bit of softwood in with it to make it burn real nice so am happy with a bit of conifer or pine and then do a mix in my log stores.

 

Not sure I would like to pay top dollar for a load of poplar, willow or conifer but my wood is self scavanged so free is good IMO:thumbup:

Does seem a bit of a stuck record really:001_rolleyes: dry wood burns I had a multi fuel burner bang the oval coal stuff on get it red then chuck whatever on top and it will burn wet dry or whatever species:)

If anything spruce is better than hardwoods

 

Sustainable, as most is grown in plantations

Easy to light

Cheaper

Burns with a good heat

Splits easy

Lifting big rings won't do your back in (as quickly)

Gives off wee crackles/pops when burnt, so you have the effect of a fire even in a closed stove

i think that these stove suppliers have a lot to anwer for,it is a bit like this stigma against poplar or alder they give off great heat in a stove true poplar is pants on an open fire but as with soft wood put it in a stove its brill ,

If your having issues with a certain stove retailer in your area giving bad info why not pop along and see them. give them a free load of softwood. Tell them to use it and see what they think. Educate them. If it burns nice they'll want more. Give them some cards. My mother in law runs our stove shop and loves softwood. We keep the display cooker going on pallets.
