Distance learning.

After about 14 years of tree related work, and about 3 years on Arbtalk learning that there is more to this industry than just a load of NPTC quals and some work gained knowledge, I want to 'get some letters after my name' as it were.....I want to feel that what I know is reflected by a formal qualification basically. My starting point after a couple of days in front of the PC and several calls to other arbs was the FRS cert arb, leading to ND Arb at a later date. However it appears that this is not available as a correspondence course. Family and career mean that I cannot do a full time in-house course at college.

Any suggestions?

I have been looking at ISA cert arb.

What other suggestions can I get off those of you in the know.

Ta.:001_smile:

Tom, as a working guy and a father doing the study is hard going, i would be tempted to do the ISC cert arb, the study book is about 60 quid and the exam is multi choice and you can go at your own pace and book the exam when you want. I have just done the RFS online, and its hard going getting the time etc etc.

good for you tommer, it isnt going to be easy with a job and a family but if your determined and want it enough you will find a path to it.

treelife is "our" best option as far as I can tell and ive done a LOT of looking and trying various other methods.

the tech cert at tree life can be done and you can continue to sit more units for the prof diploma.

Tom I did the RFS cert arb many years ago and it's a great qual although my feeling is that it's not as indepth as the tech cert, which looks really good and the ability to add units for the prof dip is brilliant, I'm looking at starting it later this year, I've no experience of the ISA cert I'm afraid.

I think they all require ongoing cpd nowadays which keeps them relevant, something sadly lacking when I qualified.

Good luck with it whichever way you go.
