Thoughts on Holm Oak?

between you me and the fence post, you might want to get the guy to alter his mortgage/insurance combination.

 

there are one or two that dont use certain "poeple" and would probably see the trees left where they are.

If I get the job I will have to thin a large one out, next to a house. There doesn't seem to be a lot of growth in the centre of the crown it is all on the tips.

 

Has anyone thinned a holm oak out before and what sort of percentage should I be looking at?

Dont underestimate the amount of arisings!

Holm oak has a lovely grain, i would definately try and make something from it other than firewood. I've turned a few bits in holm oak and come out nice.

As in Tom's pics home oak has a lovely grain on it that I've not seen on any other tree. I made a worktop out of some and it's been fantastic - it's got to be some of the hardest timber you can get!

 

Well worth milling but outside it's not the most durable. I'd stick to indoors.

Cheers Rob, you guys are giving me a bit of encouragement to get as much away in large log as I can.

 

I think the home owner will have some satisfaction knowing its not just going to be burned.
