Jon go into a proper cycle shop or look on net for last years model. Just like cars they make changes each year to the models so you have the 09 model 10 model etc. and you can get massive savings by buying last years model. I bought a Scott f1 and got a cracking deal.

Mendip, for 1k, you can get a very nice bike fron Cube. I have a Cube Ltd Race, great spec allround and pretty light too. I have had a bunch of bikes over the years and this one is a cracker! Don't go to Halfords, they don't know anything about bikes. Try an independent shop and usually you will get a discount if you ask for it. I got £100 off mine. Oh aye it should have been £1100..Brakes are great and good rolling tyres.

have a look at Orange bikes. they are really well built. the Orange Crush is in your price range, thats what i have, its a brilliant bike, seen here i've made a couple of modifications but thats just for my ride style, its built with really good components. in my opinion much better than anything from halfords.

My mate runs a small bike shop, low overheads and ge knows his stuff. He got me a Forme, really pleased with it, went out with another lad with his £2k hand built 1 and he broke 3 spokes and mine didn't get amark on it.

He could get 1 delivered straight to u for a lot less than a grand jon

Cant beat the advice from a propper bike shop. I`ve had scotts in the last few years, Scott scale 900 quid. Best bike i`ve had. Good groupset and hydroformed frame. Its had some hammer and quite a few offs but it just carries on.
