You need to target as many companies as poss, especially the ones where the owner doesnt climb :thumbup1:

With the amount of work dropping off I can see lads being laid off and the "boss" dusting his harness off.

see i look at it in another way....i think companies will be laying off employees then find themselves short when they hit short busy spells and find themselves in need of subbies, course either way its speculation

I see what you mean but I would have thought the lads who got laid off would be the first to get a call when the work comes in not a subbie, dunno but its what I would do.

Ive checked the local paper and yellow pages and there are tonnes of one man bands floating around. If anyone knows of anyother half decent people down that way please let me know. And also where is the best place to enquire about insurance, both public liability and personal, lots on the net, just need pointing in the right direction.

Those lads that were laid off might be pissed of and not want to work for the boss again. ALso they might be full timer types who won't do freelance work? I dunno either.

I still say that a freelance climber working WITH another company should be covered by their PL insurance. They are not true subbies.

A subbie could get a worksheet sent in the post with a price on it for them. They would then take their truck chipper and groundie and do the job on their own insurance.

thats all good advice, but where is the best place to get pl insurance??

I use trust mate, just google trust insurance, they seemed competitive (at the time) and covered me upto 5ml PL which equals most of the people I work with. Good luck.

rich.

Under normal circumstances, in order to be covered by a Public liability policy you need to be the principal or a directly employed (cards in).

Er.. I think you will find to be "covered" by public liability insurance you need to be a member of the "public" and not associated with the company in any way!
