Good wage for a groundie/Inexperienced climber?

Lets look at it from a slightly different slant, the building trade is going thru a bit of a slump right now, yet any of the trades are still charging top money. Go thru your local YP/Thomson directory, there are far more plumbers/sparkies in there than arborists. If people want the work doing, then they have to pay for it whatever trade. None of us will do ourselves any favours underselling, just cos your the cheapest wont pay the bills when you've gone bust. That kit still requires maintenance, the lads still need paying for hols and so on. How are people going to pay for the finance on their kit if they drop their prices?

Inflation keeps pushing up the cost of living, so why would anyone cut their prices, and earn less?

are you saying up to £7800 is not enough per year for harness, ropes, and PL ?

Debatable, IMO, the fire service do risk assessment these days and are not allowed to put them selves in danger!

they get to sleep night shifts & get paid whilst in the land of nod, so they are nice & fresh to go out on rest days as tree surgeons etc

the idea of a good wage is subjective,

it really depends on the personal circumstance, finance & drive to learn of the individual concerned , coupled with the need of the employer based on profitability & the availability within the local workforce

This week i won three jobs where i was 20-30 quid cheaper.

 

Then i lost one job as i was 40 quid to high

 

My prices are as low as i will work for and to be beaten i know another firm is going to be working hard for little cash.

 

I think the days of earning £500 a day are all but over.

 

Like it or not its us guys who work in this industry that are knocking prices so low. But what do you do loose the job or lower the price.

 

Who suffers us by working for pittance and the customer as jobs are rushed through. You can only do excellent jobs if you have the time and the money on the job.

the subs i use are starting their own business and hassle me for work when they have nothing but if i phone them and try to get them in when i want they um and ah and only do it if it fits in with them. i would pay more if they returned the 'favor' of helping me out when i need it but they don't
