sideline extras?

hey guys, recently ive had an increasing number of customers askin me if i can "carve a toadstool, hedgehog, seat.... from that stump/chog etc"

 

also a few asking for other little bits like "bee logs" "natural bird boxes" etc etc from some of the arisings...

 

im half considering havin a bash at bustin a few bits and bobs out in my spare time (whatever that is ) and seein if they are as popular as they seem to be round my way at the moment.. shouldnt be too bad as have full access to a joinery workshop and tools and machinery..

 

anyone else done/do this or anyone have any thoughts if it might work (im not expecting a living, more just grabbing people interest at the possibilities of makin use of the "waste" rather than just chipping/burning everything?

Making “something” out of a lump of dross timber is a great way of not having to remove it from site.

 

I have a standard range of animals I carve, Sea Eagle with fish in talons, rearing bear, and wind in the willows characters are all popular,……………………………….they do all look a lot like a mushroom though:laugh1:

haha treequip there was me getting all impressed with that range of animals. at least that makes me happier to know that its not just me who makes animals resemble fungi!

yeah i do a lot of tables, always put the saw through the bottom in the end.

Doesn't look it, but this is about 6ft high.

 

Made for umpiring badminton and lawn tennis in the summer.

 

Had to do it off spikes because the ladder was a pain. Took about the same time as ringing the butt out, but a lot less lifting and sawdust.

If marketed to correct audience then they can brome a busy little sideline I found.I've come to problem of I hardly have any large enough lumps left anymore.Plant troughs seemed to have been really popular this year round.Plus it's pretty stress relieving carving away with your saw i feel

I've made a few "Logs" in folks Gardens over the years.I am reluctant to take them away but I'm sure the plants find them nutritious.
