Look for associated ware, like is the seat or steering wheel worn or the seat belt sluggish going back in, more than should be for a car of such low mileage

is the seller shifty?

probably not on a van that new because it could of been "clocked" before its first mot, on an older motor you can use the dvla web site for previous milage on mot certs.

as above direct.gov.uk search for MOT histoy, you need the test number off a previous MOT certificate, the later the better. ut this inthe relevant box and it will bring up every MOT its had with details of any failures and advisories milage etc, very useful when buying vehicles, i've surprised a few people with things they didn't even know using this facility!

Managed to do this online with a mobile phone with a Yaris I was buying for my daughter recently. Had already agreed to pay £900 as a 10 year old Yaris with only 90k on the clock are like gold dust. Looked at seats and they looked tired so asked for MOT history and surprise surprise only current MOT available so input MOT number into DVLA site and out popped all the MOT certs showing vehicle had done over 145k at previous MOT and included failure certificates. Ended up very impressed with the service and saved £900.

Ask a motor trader. When I was one we had a challenge up at the auction to blind guess the mileage to the nearest 10k on various motors. 95% of the time we were right. The rest were clocked.
