Old woodland sayings and wise words

My youngest son who's an apprentice on the tools came home the other day with this saying which i believe was taught to him by a fellow Arb talk member Mike from Kent.

"If an Ash gets leaves before an Oak we are in for soak, if an Oak gets leaves before an Ash we are in for a splash"

Now strangely enough here in the south it hasn't rained much in two months and my Oak tree had leaves before the Ash trees at the back of my house, so could this be true ?

What other wise old sayings can fellow Arbtalkers share ?

Please can everyone refrain from regurgitating any old bollocks from that crappy firewood poem. I thank you.

Alright how about:

Buzzard in a tree, worse day it wil be.

Buzzard on a post, better day than most.

Buzzard in the air, weather's turning fair.

Buzzard on a nest, time to pack away you vest.

Buzzard on a wire, weather's turning dire.

Buzzard on a light, weather's turning shite.

Buzzard on a pole, fog will roll.

:lol::lol:
