I know what you're saying mate, breaks my heart n all and I only pay forty quid.

Get a cert for that though, a cert to say it's been done by a competent person. Not saying we ain't competent but it's good for insurance purposes.

True. I get a receipt rather than an actual certificate. I suppose there's a bit more to it than just poking a brush up a chimney, but I could get a decent set of rods and brushes for the cost of one or two sweeping visits...

We had both chimneys swept today for £100 so receipt/cert issued. I've also thought about doing it myself so I asked an ins co (not ours). They told me that if a chimney fire was proved to have been caused by excessive soot, the ins would be void unless proof could be shown that all steps were taken ie, swept annually by a qualified sweep. I've watched him several times & I'm pretty sure I could do it, its just that damned certificate...

Won't be long now! Proper sweep, stripped it down, checked welds and cleaned for forty quid.

About to light ours.

Weather has well and truly turned now. Cold wet and windy with some thunder and lightning for good measure. Looking forward to drying out in front of the fire later.
